Tabac Noir is a tribute to Tabac Blond from 1919 (still available today!)

Tabac Noir underlines the woody of tobacco leaf. Whereas Tabac Blond drapes the leather notes around the carnation and iris, this is about wood, leather, and lots of patchouli. Dark, full, slightly spicy, and enveloping. A modern creation inspired by a classic theme, very wearable and warm.

Tonka beans, Vanilla, Styrax, Pepper, Honey, Papyrus, Cedarwood, Cistus labdanum, Leather, Patchouli, Tobacco

Since its founding in 1904 (!), Caron has been the lead example of pure genuine passion within the classic French perfume world. The founder Ernest Daltroff was one of the pioneers in perfumery. Together with his creative director and maîtresse, Félicie Wanpouille, Daltroff created legendary fragrances including Narcisse Noir (1911), N’aimez que moi (1917), Tabac Blond (1919) and Pour un Homme (1934). Since 2020, businesswoman Ariane de Rothschild and perfumer Jean Jacques determine the course of Caron. They combine their shared love for fragrance, luxury, and tradition to bring the house of Caron into the 21st century. In addition to a focus on the classics of the brand, they create contemporary perfumes of the same exceptional quality.

Leather

Discover the multiple facets of leather in perfumes. Think of the smell of a leather jacket, a pair of suede shoes, the inside of a leather bag, or an old Chesterfield… Leather gives a luxurious, seductive and elegant touch to the fragrance. But it is also dark, robust and slightly animalic which makes this smell mysteriously tantalizing.

Caron is disappointing since they got Jean Jacques as new perfumer
I tried 'Tabac Noir' as well as 'Tabac Exquis' and fruther on I have also tried four other new Caron creations from Jean Jacques. My results: These are not Caron perfumes anymore. I am a huge fan of the classic Carons and especially their line from 2015-2017 with newly re-released classics like 'French CanCan' - superb perfume art, deep, luxurious, high-quality scents they were, reaching back to the 1920s. Since Jean Jacques creates the new scents they (sorry, but it's the truth, at least for my nose=) smell synthetical ('Tabac Exquis' was especially awful), overly sweet and I would never smell it is Caron scents if I did a blind test. (In fact, if I did a blind test I would guess that these new scents are priceranged betwenn 10-30€ in the drugstore, the shelf down below, that is how they smell. Funnily enough, despite this obvious lack in quality (you can see that in the INCI lists as well, now you find lots of chemicals in there and stuff like Ambrox, Cahmeran etc. instead of high quality natural oils as it was before, they still cost between 180.- to 250€.) That, indeed was possible with Caron scents before, they were such high quality and unique with a certain DNA that I could blindly smell it's a scent from the house even if it was a new one. So, I will treasure and appreciate my Caron scent collection of the classics up to the line until 2017. I will not test any further Jean Jacques creations, he simply can't produce high quality scents.
