Oud Excelsa by Caron masterfully blends the richness of oud wood with the full-bodied essence of coffee. This radiant, woody perfume is both captivating and complex, inviting wearers into a mystical journey through scent.
Oud Excelsa by Caron is a mesmerizing blend of woody and radiant notes, where the richness of oud meets the bold aroma of coffee. This unique composition weaves together the warm, leathery depth of cistus absolute, birch, Atlas cedar, and papyrus wood. Fresh cardamom adds a bright, Middle Eastern touch, while the exclusive natrotar molecule deepens the smoky, toasted facets of the fragrance. Robuston further enhances these nuances, and Caron’s iconic Bulgarian rose lends an elegant finish.
The story behind the fragrance takes place in a hidden, peaceful sanctum, away from the noise of the outside world. In this calm setting, the slow-burning oud wood fills the air with a warm, ancient smell. A person is reading coffee grounds, using an ancient practice called tasseography, which reveals the future. This creates a mystical atmosphere where time seems to stand still and reality feels blurred, transporting the senses to a place where different worlds and times collide. Oud Excelsa captures this sense of mystery, blending ancient traditions with a modern sensory experience.
Sustainably sourced from Vietnam, the oud in Oud Excelsa is responsibly harvested, reflecting Caron’s commitment to ethical practices.

Since its founding in 1904 (!), Caron has been the lead example of pure genuine passion within the classic French perfume world. The founder Ernest Daltroff was one of the pioneers in perfumery. Together with his creative director and maîtresse, Félicie Wanpouille, Daltroff created legendary fragrances including Narcisse Noir (1911), N’aimez que moi (1917), Tabac Blond (1919) and Pour un Homme (1934). Since 2020, businesswoman Ariane de Rothschild and perfumer Jean Jacques determine the course of Caron. They combine their shared love for fragrance, luxury, and tradition to bring the house of Caron into the 21st century. In addition to a focus on the classics of the brand, they create contemporary perfumes of the same exceptional quality.

Woody
Woody fragrances are full of character and indeed very woodsy. They can be warm, soothing and creamy, but also dry and spicy. Key ingredients are cedar wood, patchouli, sandalwood and/or vetiver. Oudh (agarwood), Palo Santo and guaiac wood have also joined the perfumer's palet, just like the fantastic synthetics such as Javanol or Iso-E-Super.
Jean Jacques
Jean Jacques worked for 22 years at Takasago, this Japanese company is one of the largest producers of fragrances and flavorings in the world. Here he created perfumes such as Piano Santal for L'Orchestre, Gentleman Only by Givenchy. Since 2019, Jean is the house perfumer of Caron and together with Ariane de Rothschild, the owner of the company, he creates all new perfumes for this iconic perfume house. Heritage and modernity are beautifully combined.
